Hardstyle Reverb in FL Studio

Full reverb and delay buses that sound really professional. When I started out I thought there were really complex things going on, but it's actually pretty simple.

    One fully wet reverb channel

    Watch 1:38

First of all, my signal is completely dry. Link your leads and chords into one bus, so everything has the same reverb applied. Don't put individual reverb or delay on one VST. You could add the reverb on that bus and it would sound pretty okay.

But what I suggest is to link it to another mixer track. Then you get a full reverb layer. Only add plugins that are wet. No dry signal, all wet. It sounds much fuller. Just make sure you don't have too many highs in your reverb and delay, and remove the bass.

Fruity Convolver for a church sound

    Watch 3:22

A really dope plugin which no one uses at all is Fruity Convolver. It comes with FL Studio and it emulates a reverb. If you record a sound with the reverb of a church and put it in here, you get that kind of sound. There are presets, like a cathedral. This is how the leads would sound in a church.

On my reverb bus I put the convolver, delay and reverb. Only the convolver already makes it really full.

Duck the reverb with Fruity Limiter

The second method is another reverb channel, but with a sidechain or ducking reverb effect. Make sure it's 100% wet and remove the bass and the frequencies you don't want at the end. I really like ValhallaRoom, so I make it really big. Then open Fruity Limiter, go from limiting to compression and add sidechain. Put it after the reverb. Whenever the sound is playing there's no reverb, and whenever it's not playing the reverb opens up.

Find a sweet spot on the threshold. Then it comes down to your melody, and the release is a really big knob in this. This melody has open spots, so the release can be a bit longer. With a quick melody without spaces, the compression needs to hit faster so the reverb gets back sooner. Otherwise it sounds really dry.

The same trick on the delay

    Watch 6:56

You can do this with delay as well, and people don't really do this. Same thing. Remove the bass and frequencies at the end, add EchoBoy and put a limiter after it, sidechained to the sound. In EchoBoy I go to the classics and pick Spaced Space Echo, with a really big width. 100% wet, no dryness. Add feedback, find the delay time you want and do some low cut and high cut.

Make the delay at least a little bit special, so it gets filtered more and more. Don't make it just a stereo or ping pong delay, because it's boring.

EchoBoy on Spaced Space Echo, mix fully wet, echo 1 at 1/4 note and echo 2 at 1/2 note.
