How to Make a Classic Hardstyle Lead in Serum

To create that classic hardstyle lead in Serum, I start with a saw wave.

My notes from this Short

01

A saw wave into tube distortion

First I open Serum and get a saw wave. I add the reverb and delay for spice, and the distortion on tube distortion with the drive at 100%.

02

A random LFO in hertz on the fine tune

Then I get an LFO, put it from BPM to hertz and create a random LFO. I put this LFO on the fine tune at 100%, play it and find a sweet spot for it.

Then I open up the unison and put it a little bit down.

03

Filter, EQ, compressor and a second oscillator

I take a filter and remove a little bit of the highs. Then I take an EQ and remove the bass, and finally add a compressor to get it down a little bit more.

To spice it up even more, I take another oscillator, open it up, open the detune and add this to the fine tune. Add more distortion if you want, it's all fine.
