How to Make Detuned Hardstyle Chords in Serum

If you're struggling with powerful chords for your hardstyle melodies, here's how you can make a huge preset in Serum only.

My notes from this Short

01

Two oscillators with 16 voices each

I set oscillator A to a unison of 16, and oscillator B to a unison of 16 and one octave up.

Then I add a poly of 32 so you can play a lot of voices.

02

Chaos on the coarse pitch for more detune

For more chaos and detune I take LFO 1, disable the BPM, set a high rate and add it to the fine tune. You can change this to make it less chaotic.

For even more detune I add the chaos to the coarse pitch, increase the rate of the chaos until it's very detuned, and take down the output to your liking.

Serum matrix for detuned hardstyle chords: LFO 1 on the fine tune of oscillators A and B, and Chaos 1 on the coarse pitch of both
The matrix, with LFO 1 on both fine tunes and Chaos 1 on both coarse pitches.
03

Macro 1 on both detune knobs

Finally I assign macro 1 to the detune of both oscillators, so you can change how much detune you want.
