How to Make Detuned Oldschool Screeches in Sylenth1

These detuned screeches for oldschool hardstyle and techno are made in Sylenth1. Here's how you make them.

My notes from this Short

01

Pitch bend range at 24

I start with my pattern and pitch automation, so I make sure the pitch bend range is at 24. That way it can go down a lot. Then make sure you're in the right octave.

02

Two saws without phase retriggering

I add eight voices to the saw wave, add detune and take down the stereo. To remove that clicky sound, disable the phase retriggering.

I like to add a saw wave on top with eight voices, no phase retriggering, detune, less stereo and one octave higher. This adds a lot of detune on top.

Sylenth1 oscillator A1 for a detuned oldschool hardstyle screech: a saw wave with 8 voices, detune, less stereo and retrigger switched off
Oscillator A1: a saw with 8 voices, detune, less stereo and retrig off.
03

One LFO for the screech and one for a wobble

I add two LFOs to the pitch. The first one makes it screechy with pitch AB: gain open, rate open, free for hertz, put it on random and add the amount. The second one adds a little bit of a pitch wobble. If you want it to be less screechy, take down the gain.

Then pitch AB goes to the envelope. Take down the sustain and open the decay very minimally. A minimal clip distortion makes it a bit more bright, and then I compress it.
