How to Make Gated and Gearbox Punches for Hardstyle Kicks

You can create gearbox and gated type punches in a very fast and easy way. This is the setup I use.

My notes from this Short

01

Two EQs and two hard clippers

I take a kick and add the first EQ, where I remove the sub to control the crunch and the character a little bit. Then I add a hard clipper.

In the second EQ I boost the high mids, remove the mids next to them and remove the sub, because this gets more crunch in the game. Then I add one more hard clipper and find a few different frequencies.

The second EQ: the sub out, a cut in the mids and a boost in the high mids.
02

Trim the render down to the punch

Now I quickly render out a few different variations, which you can easily get with this setup. I take the sample and move the length until I only have the punch.

Then I put that in the playlist, add some reverb, and change the time multiplier and the pogo.
