How to Layer Extra Crunches in a Hardstyle Kick

The crunch in your hardstyle kick is incredibly important. Introducing other crunches on top of it will make that crunch even better.

My notes from this Short

01

Route every extra crunch into one main channel

I take some samples and put them in underneath my kick. Make sure all the extra crunches you are adding are routed to their own channels, and then they go into one main channel.

In this main channel I add some clipping, some distortion and maybe some EQ. Then the phasing that comes up by combining all these crunches will actually sound good.

02

Declick the samples and keep them parallel

Put each sample on a declicking mode, something like smooth or generic. Then find a sweet spot and keep adding more crunches. If they're parallel they boost each other and sound better. It loses power when they're not parallel.

You can use this to create movement in your kicks. Add another one, and another one, play around with all of these and add very weird crunches. Eventually you'll get a very big crunch layer.
