How to Make a Rawstyle Kick in Vital

Making rawstyle kicks like this is really easy in Vital. Here's how you do it.

My notes from this Short

01

LFO envelopes on the oscillator levels

I loop a note and start with an initialized preset. For oscillator 1 and 2, I take down the phase randomization. LFO 1 is going to be the punch, on envelope at 1/4, and LFO 2 is the crunch, reversed.

I assign LFO 1 to oscillator 1 and open up the level all the way, and LFO 2 to the level of oscillator 2.

02

Analog 24 high pass and a comb filter

In filter 1 I add analog 24, change it to a high pass and add resonance. In filter 2 I add a comb filter on low high plus flanger.

03

Hard clip with the drive all the way

I add distortion on hard clip, drive all the way, and a compressor afterwards, adding a little bit of mids. Finally I add reverb in front or after the distortion, take down the lows and add some time.

Then just use inharmonic stretch to change the crunch.

Vital effects for a rawstyle kick: reverb with the lows cut and 1.704 seconds of time, hard clip distortion with the drive all the way up, then a multiband compressor
Reverb in front of the hard clip, then the multiband compressor.
