How to Make Rawstyle Punches With FL Studio Stock Plugins

You can make rawstyle punches only using FL Studio stock plugins.

My notes from this Short

01

Three wave shapers with EQs on the mids

I grab any of the basic kicks in FL Studio and distort it with a wave shaper. In front of it I add an EQ to boost the bass and the mids. Then another wave shaper with similar distortion, and I really boost a frequency anywhere in the mids.

One more wave shaper, and with another EQ I boost the mids again. At the end of the chain, automate the volume of your punch and shorten it up so it's the length of a punch.

02

A Fruity Phaser with the sweep off

In front of the last wave shaper I add a Fruity Phaser. A phaser really cuts into the frequency spectrum, and if you disable the sweep frequency, you remove any movement of the phaser. I remove the stereo too.

Now you can play around with the frequency range and the stages. This gives you a lot of tone control.

Fruity Phaser in FL Studio for a rawstyle punch: sweep frequency at 0 Hz, stereo at 0 phase, a small frequency range and 15 stages, placed before the last Fruity WaveShaper in the mixer chain
Sweep at 0 Hz, stereo off, in front of the last wave shaper.
03

A still chorus and the final clip

A chorus in front of the wave shaper helps widen up your punch. Take down the frequency of every LFO so it's not moving, and play around with the stereo depth and delay.

Then some basic post processing. I never use Soundgoodizer, but here we can use it. Add the FL Studio transient processor, an EQ to really enhance the highs, and a wave shaper to clip it against zero. Now you can go back into any of your peaks, the phaser stages and the chorus.
