How to Make a Rawstyle Zaag Kick in Serum 2

Here's how you can make zaag kicks like Vertile and Krowdexx in Serum 2, and it's actually pretty easy.

My notes from this Short

01

Three oscillators on the 4088 wavetable

I use three oscillators. The sub on minus one, and oscillators A and B one octave higher. I take down the phase randomization and the level of A and B, and select the 4088 wavetable.

02

Open and close the sub with LFO envelopes

For the distortion chain I open a distortion on Zero Square, all the way, add an EQ in front and find the peak. Then I play around with the low shelf to open and close the sub. LFO 1 on envelope goes to the gain of the sub. I do this again with a bell curve and add it to the gain too.

Then I add another peak around the same frequency as the first one, with LFO 2 on envelope added to the gain from zero up. After that a tube distortion, one more EQ and a soft clipper. With the final EQ I boost the sub with the same LFO.

LFO 1 on envelope moves the low shelf gain in front of Zero Square.
03

A Utility on the lows at 300

Back on the oscillators, I add detune on both of them. Then in the effects I add a splitter, low and high, and on the lows a Utility with the width down and the crossover around 300. This will fix phasing issues.

On oscillator B I add the sync warp so I can change the tone. To keep dialing in the kick, I put a macro on the frequency of both peaks and one on the sync. In the matrix, make sure they're around the same range and put them on bipolar. Then change the movement just by changing your sub LFO.
