How to Quickly Test Different Punches for Your Hardstyle Kick

With this technique I make different punches for a kick and see which one works best.

My notes from this Short

01

A project with the kick parts separated

The first thing I need is a project where the punch, the crunch and the reverb tail are separated. All three go into the mixer and then come together in one bus.

The volume of the punch is cut in the mixer, and the same for the crunch and the reverb, so they blend into each other perfectly.

02

Boost the key and distort the punch

Add distortion to your punch and boost the frequency of your key. So if your key is in A, boost A, then add distortion and have this punch really distorted.

03

Swap the punch and keep the power

Because you cut the volume of the punch in the mixer, no matter what you change, the power of the punch will stay there, because you have distortion. Keep playing your kick and play with the sampler.

Another thing you can try out is adding a different punch and changing it around. It has a really big effect on all the punches you can make for your kick, and it saves a lot of time.
