How to Make Dive Bomb Screeches in Serum

How to make these professional dive bomb screeches, starting in Serum with a little bit of detune.

My notes from this Short

01

Spectral FM from a muted oscillator B

I start in Serum with a little bit of detune. Then I open oscillator B, but disable the level, find a spectral wavetable and take down the octaves. Oscillator A goes on FM from B.

02

Reverb filter with the mix down

In the filter section I find the reverb filter and take it down, but take down the mix as well.

Then add a lot of distortion, with Diode for example, a compressor with a low threshold, a reverb and a delay, and clean it up.

03

An envelope on the coarse pitch

The most important part is the envelope. Make it look like the one in the video and add it to the coarse pitch.

Now you can blend the sound by tweaking the FM, the unison or the reverb filter.

Serum envelope 2 for a dive bomb screech: 170 ms attack, 1.55 s decay and 0.00% sustain, with oscillator A on FM from a spectral oscillator B three octaves down
The envelope for the coarse pitch: 170 ms attack, 1.55 s decay and no sustain.
