How to Use a Multiband Compressor Before Distortion in Serum 2

If you're making hardstyle screeches or kicks, here's an easy trick in Serum 2.

My notes from this Short

01

Compress first, then distort

A very common technique is to add a multiband compressor to make the sound sit better in the mix and make it a bit more alive. I add one in front of my distortion chain instead. That way the sound gets multiband compressed first, and then that gets distorted.

02

Feed it into Diode 2 or a sine fold

It works especially well with Diode 2, or a distortion that's a bit more interesting like sine fold or sine shaper. It adds a very cool tone to your sound. You can add a multiband after as well.

Don't overdo this effect, but you can add it to kicks, screeches and leads and just see what happens.
